László Czidra

1941 - 2001

The critics expert in early music in Europe and overseas agree that Mr. Czidra belonged to the most significant recorder players of our time. As a soloist, he was known primarily as the performer of the recorder-family but Mr. Czidra is a prominent artist of several other early woodwind instruments as well.

László Czidra was not only a fist class performer but a notable musicologist as well. As the artistic director of the Camerata Hungarica, Mr. Czidra has accomplished a unique activity in the field of early music. The first complete practical classification of the early Hungarian and East-European music as well as the popularization of these musical treasures in concerts and recordings on high artistic level is labelled by his name. The complete Hungarian and East-European repertoire and most of the West European program of the Camerata Hungarica is played his authentic arrangement. As soloist he played the greatest masters of the baroque music (Bach, Händel, Telemann, Vivaldi, Corelli, Marcello).
